Overlooking the Potomac River, the Harborfront Area is within walking distance to many area hotels. A paved, waterfront trail runs the length of the harbor, offering families great water views.
Families will find many dining and shopping spots along the way, as well as kid-friendly artwork and statues, some that are meant to be climbed on. Artist Ivan Scwartz created several of these pieces, which feature George Washington, Winston Churchill, and Louis Armstrong, along the harbor and town center. Kids will also love the pedal boat rentals, carousel, and Capital Wheel.
Movies on the Potomac also take place here. A giant outdoor screen is always on display at the center of town, overlooking the river. In the summer, family-friendly movies are shown almost every weekend evening, and holiday movies are played on Saturdays in November and December. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, grab a spot and enjoy the complimentary screenings of great family films.
