This is a good destination for families who like to hike and poke around in caves. The 3,500-acre park is filled with interesting rock formations, natural bridges and spectacular views of the lake. However, the park’s focal point is manmade — the ruins of castle built on this land in the 1940s by a Scottish businessman. The castle burned to the ground and just a few walls and other features remain in what is now one of Missouri’s most popular state parks. You may arrive by boat or car.
