This beloved state park draws close to 570,000 visitors each year to admire its majestic falls that drop over three terraces in a wide gorge. There also is an impressive visitor center that offers a great introduction to North Shore geology, wildlife and forests. Look for coloring books and guidebooks to engage kids or borrow one of the free GPS units for geocaching. If you stay in the main parking lot, you won’t need to pay the usual state park entrance fee ($5 per day).
