In Galena Historic District — which covers most of the quaint city — visitors are bound to fall in love with the elegance of architectural masterpieces, most of which house hotels, stores and restaurants.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Galena has several storied attractions, such as the Ulysses S. Grant Home, Elihu E. Washburne House and Old Market House. De Soto Hotel, the longest operating lodge in the state, has also seen the likes of Abraham Lincoln and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Galena is located just over three hours from Chicago.
