Take a cooler, sunscreen and an appetite for this 35-mile scenic loop of farms. You can pick your own cherries, berries, peaches and apples or peruse bountiful, bins of fruit surrounded by rolling orchards and Mount Hood on the horizon. Parents can grab a crisp hard apple or pear cider or pear wine at the Gorge White House and push their kids’ definition of pizza by sampling ones with pears or cherries with smoky bacon among the toppings. You’ll also find plenty of other treats for sale at various stops, such as ice cream, cookies, pies, dried apples and endless combinations of jams and jellies. Other stops let you pick-your-own lavender bundles, flower bouquets and feed mop-topped alpacas whose fur is spun into soft yarn for knitting shops around the country.
