If you want to burn some kid energy and see a breathtaking view of St. Martin, climbing the steps to the top of Fort Louis is a perfect and quick outing for your family.
Located on the French side, Fort Louis overlooks Marigot Bay and the island of Anguilla. Built in 1789, its original purpose was to defend the harbor warehouses where goods like salt, coffee and rum, were stored.
Be prepared to climb several stone steps up a steep incline to reach the top. But once you’re up there and can catch your breath, the views will take your breath away again. It’s gorgeous and offers the perfect photo opportunities. Kids will love investigating the cannon and the French flag that sits atop the fort. Historical information can be found at the top, too, if you’d like to teach your kids more about Fort Louis.
