In operation since 1788, The English Market is a covered food market and one of the oldest municipal markets in the world. The market is the social hub of the city center and has a variety of traders for everyday culinary needs, such as meats, produce, spices, cheeses and chocolates, as well as novelty items, Irish-made products, and food stalls.
Hours
Open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
Things to Know/Bring
It’s best to avoid peak trading hours — 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — and weekends, which can be very hectic. There is only one coin-operated public toilet, located near the fish aisle. It is also important to note that aisles are narrow and many traders accept cash only.
Dining
There are cafes, delis and food stalls in the market.
Parking
The market has no dedicated parking. There is street parking and paid parking lots. There is also a Park & Ride bus service on the south side of the city.
