The Desert of Maine is exactly what it sounds like. The desert was created by sand and mineral deposits left behind by a glacier thousands of years ago, and families can go on short, guide-led tours to learn more about the unique history of the park. The park, located in Freeport, Maine, also has a campground, butterfly room, disc golf and gift shop.
Admission
Admission is $12.50 for adults, $7.75 for teens 13 to 16, $6.75 for children ages 4 to 12, and free for kids under 4.
Hours
It’s typically open from early May to mid-October, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with the last tour departing at 4:30).
