Crystal Cave is a fun, educational stop for families in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Tour guides lead groups through each “room” in the cave, explaining the history and geology of the magnificent formations. In some cases, guides might turn off flashlights so visitors can take in the peace and quiet of the cave; if this might pose a problem for someone in your family, let your tour guide know in advance. Allow at least five hours for the experience.
Admission is $15 for adults, $8 for kids ages 5 to 12 and $3 for children under 5. Themed tours, including a Historic Candlelight Tour, are also offered with varied rates.
Note: It’s a half-mile walk down a steep hill to get to the cave, which means getting back up is a real challenge. The road that leads to the cave is also rough.
