You’ve seen the blockbuster “Cars,” right? Well, guess where this monstrous hit of a movie premiered? Nope, not in Hollywood. “Cars” first zoomed into kid-culture at the Charlotte Motor Speedway back in ‘06. When McQueen uttered his first, “KA-Chow!”, an entire generation was introduced to the fun of the hit film.
The Charlotte Motor Speedway sprawls over 2,000 acres and features several state-of-the-art tracks that host many types of races, including the wildly famous NASCAR. The speedway also has a quarter-mile drag racing strip and a clay oval that hosts dirt racing. All kinds of races take place at this well-loved venue — including principals racing school buses. Monster trucks crash into each other every August.
Value hotels are just minutes from the Speedway, and camping is onsite.
For speed-enthusiasts, take the family on the Feel the Thrill Speedway Tour. You’ll drive by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage, ride through two infield race tracks, and take a picture in the Winner’s Circle. The knowledgeable guide will explain the history of the Charlotte Motor Speedway while you kick back in a comfy van ride. But don’t get too comfortable because soon you’ll be racing around the speedway “where you will feel the full-tilt force of the 24-degree banking.” You’ll also visit the zMAX Dragway and The Dirt Track.
