You can drive or hike through the Catskills, but there’s nothing quite like a train ride through the region. Relax in restored 1920s coaches, or sit in an open gondola for breathtaking views of the Esopus Creek and surrounding area.
The best time of year to ride the train is in late September or early October, when fall foliage reaches its peak. Twilight rides (at night), as well as holiday-themed train rides (including one with Santa and Christmas carol-singing) are available at different times throughout the year.
