The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist rests on the corner of Broad and Legare Streets, with construction of the church dating back to 1850. Originally consecrated as the Cathedral of St. John & St. Finbar in 1854, a fire destroyed the building in 1861, along with most of Charleston. In 1890, construction of the new church began, with the current cathedral standing completed in 1907.
