Castillo San Cristobal often plays second fiddle to El Morro, but that doesn’t mean it’s less worthy of a visit. If you have time to see both, you should. This large 17th century fort-which is also a part of the World Heritage Site–was built by the Spanish to protect San Juan from land attacks, and was used as a military base as recently as World War II. Various programs and tours are offered every day.
Hours
San Cristobal is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Admission
Admission is $5 per adult, and includes admission to Castillo San Felipe del Morro. Children 15 and under are free to enter.
