When traveling through Southern Utah to visit its parks and monuments, a lesser-known park, Capitol Reef, is 2.5 hours from Arches National Park and Moab, Utah. Named for its white domed rock that looks like the Capitol Building, visitors can enjoy an 8.2-mile scenic drive on paved roads to visit the Grand Wash and Capitol Gorge, as well as drive along loop trails in the Cathedral and Waterpocket Districts. (It’s just $5 per car to enter.) Free programs are held throughout the summer months, including Junior Geologist programs, evening moon-gazing programs and geology walks. The small town of Torrey, just outside of the park, has restaurant options for lunch.
