This 1.5-mile riverfront park offers an ideal place for the stroller set or kids with a lot of energy. Giggles can be constant at the brightly colored modern playground and interactive splash pad, but there are other diversions on the Riverwalk, revamped in 2012 with $6.2 million in amenities. Look for educational stops on tidal zones, butterfly and native plant gardens, interpretive signs on explorers and native tribes, and science experiments such as parabolic discs that should amaze kids with their acoustics. There’s also a fishing pier, beach-like seating beneath palm trees and the chance to see a train on the railroad bridge across the river. You may be able to catch a concert at the bandshell, and tweens and teens with bikes, scooters and boards will enjoy zipping across the impressive skate park.
