This is the world’s second-largest hot springs attraction, and worth the hike! However, families need to know that this is a very strenuous, six-hour hike; therefore, it is really geared to experienced hikers or families with tweens and teens. The trek to the lake is 8 miles.
The World Heritage Site that contains the boiling lake is located in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, located about 6.5 miles from the capital of Roseau. The lake is filled with bubbling blue-gray water that is usually surrounded in a cloud of vapor. The reason for the gurgling lake is a flooded fumarole, which is a crack in the volcano that allows gases to escape. The lake is 200 feet across and the depth remains a mystery.
For the best family experience, investigate the option of hiring a local guide to take you to and from the lake. They are experienced, knowledgeable and a great resource.
