Travel back in time by visiting the centerpiece of Tokyo’s Asakusa neighborhood — Senso-ji, the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo, founded way back in 628. Once you’ve checked out the beautiful Japanese architecture and perhaps burned a little incense for luck, you can check out the souvenirs on Nakamise Dori, the street leading to the shrine that offers a treasure trove of traditional items, from chopsticks and fans to pretty silk kimonos.

And if you really want to get into the spirit, find one of the nearby shops that allow you to get dressed up in traditional Japanese garb and wander the streets of Asakusa. (You’ll see plenty of people taking advantage of the opportunity.)
