Was in Shell Lake for a wedding. Only place to stay was here. Countertop had food and crumbs on it. Microwave door handle was sticky. The freezer part of the mini fridge had a bag of pizza rolls frozen and stuck inside of it. Bathtub was grimy. Ac/heater unit would not stay on for more than a minute no matter which settings you used. No liners or cover for dirty ice bucket. No glasses for drinking. A good nights sleep will not be had here. The walls are paper thin and the doors in the hallway are extremely loud.Seriously, just drive past this place.

Because of some daunting online reviews, I booked for one night, although I was traveling for two nights. What I found... And what I decided to do...
The good: Clean, spacious room with microwave and fridge; reasonably quiet but effective Amana AC; attractive (although aging a bit) pool area (although I didn’t use it) with pool, hot tub, kiddie pool and water slide; attractive exterior with north woods motif; good internet service; fairly reasonable price.
The acceptable: They offer a light continental breakfast including make-them-yourself waffles; adequate 32" TV, however with somewhat snowy reception; a mattress that seemed thin and low budget, although I did get a good night of sleep.
Not acceptable: No drinking glasses in room, only a single green ceramic mug. In a room for two guests, what do they expect the guests to do, share a cup? The dual pane insulated glass windows in my room had failed completely causing no ability to look outside because of moisture between the panes.
Flat out didn’t like! Shared margarine tub, peanut butter jar, cream cheese tub in breakfast area rather than single-serve containers. What is to assure that another guest won't decide to scoop some cream cheese from a tub using a fork from which he had already eaten? Cross contamination?
What I decided...
I did book another night. I was watchful of what I used in the breakfast area. Would I come back? If I’m in the area again, it’s a maybe, especially if I hear of some improvements.
