Very nice three night stay

by jbarton

My husband and I booked a superior room for three nights recently as we were going to the ballet at the opera house and this hotel is very well located to walk most places in town. Our room was very nice, light, modern and a bonus was lots of counter space in the bathroom, The shower was powerful with lots of hot water. We did not book the breakfast as neither one of us eat large breakfasts and we thought 15 Euros each was a bit much. We thought we could just grab a coffee and a muffin down in the lobby as there is a coffee bar there. However we discovered quite quickly that the coffee bar does not open until 11AM so no breakfast snack. So we bought muffins elsewhere. I guess they want people to buy their breakfast so dont open until almost lunch time which is a shame. On our last day we checked out close to noon the normal check out time so we could get lunch in their Globe restaurant before going to the bus station to catch our bus home. It was pouring out so we did not want to go anywhere else, however they dont open for lunch until 12:30 so we had to go elsewhere for lunch as we did not want to hang around the lobby for about 45 minutes and then miss our bus. As it turned out we went two doors down to a great restaurant called the Docklands. Excellent reasonably priced food in lovely surroundings and packed with customers which tells you something.. Docklands also has a deli for take away. We did have room service one night and the food from the Globe was quite good if a bit overpriced. We would definitely stay here again as the location is perfect and only one block from the bus station and quite close to the train station too. Lots of great shopping and great restaurants nearby. One small note, the restaurant and hotel are run separately so putting meals on your room is possible but not convenient as you must pay for the room and any restaurant charges separately. We never saw very many people in the Globe so obviously not popular with locals.

Good place

Nice modern hotel in centre of cork with rooms of a good standard. Only thing i could possibly complain about is the breakfast which although buffet style and plentiful is a little cold and chaotic. All in all though would highly recommend this hotel.
