Hospitality isn't just a business here, it's seems more like a core value.

I rarely post on TA, but I'm making an exception. My recent stay at the Holiday Inn Oakville was one of my best hotel experiences as a business client.

The GM, Mr. Jaka and his entire staff went beyond the call to make our project a success. Every member of his staff, without exception, went out of their way to accommodate our many (and often last minute) requests...from the folks at the front desk to the catering sales manager, to maintenance and food services. They were all attentive, understanding, courteous and genuinely...kind.

Thank you!

Basic, but comfortable enough. Avoid the weekends if you can.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Oakville Centre for 10 days in September while visiting family in Oakville. This is my second stay in as many years. To be clear, there aren't many options if you want to be near downtown Oakville, so I didn't really have a choice. It's either the Holiday Inn or the Monte Carlo Inn, both of which are on the QEW.
The location is fairly good, it's right on the QEW if you're driving, but at the same time Oakville GO and downtown Oakville is a short walk away. There are plenty of food options near the hotel (Trafalgar Village is a 5 min walk), and the Oakville Place mall is also fairly near.
The hotel is dated, no doubt about that. It doesn't look to have been renovated since at least the 80's, but although it's basic it's very comfortable and fairly well maintained. There's an indoor pool (very small) and a café and bar, and a small convenience store offering snacks and drinks (at inflated prices). A welcome addition is the free business centre and the laundromat (only 1 washer and dryer though, so be prepared to wait).
The rooms are a decent size, with an open closet, dresser, TV, refrigerator and safe. There's also a coffee machine and a small sitting area, and very efficient air conditioning. The bathrooms appear to have been upgraded recently, so that's a welcome improvement. The toiletries have also been upgraded, they're now from Bath & Body Works.
My only grouse is that the rooms facing the QEW are fairly noisy, it doesn't appear that the windows are well insulated. The only other option you have are the rooms facing the interior of the hotel, which also get noisy.
On that note, the weekends appear to be full of students and hockey moms, which leads to a lot of noise. The hotel has helpfully put up signs indicating "quiet time" starts at 10PM, but this is rarely adhered to.
The floor I was on had screaming students running down the halls till midnight most nights, as well as garbage strewn throughout the halls. I also opened my curtains to students drying their uniforms on my balcony, which was not a pleasant sight (the balcony doors had two locks, so I wasn't too worried). It would help if the hotel put all the student groups on the same floor, to minimize disruption to the other guests and ensure some privacy.
Housekeeping is extremely efficient, and the staff are very friendly. The service from front desk staff is hit or miss.
Does the job well enough, don't expect any frills though. I would definitely look at other options if there were any in downtown Oakville, but I think I'm stuck with the Holiday Inn for now. I will, however, avoid the weekends like the plague.
