One of the benefits of having a car is being able to reach out-of-the way places you’d never get to if traveling by train. The impressive Burg Colmberg hotel and restaurant, 15 minutes outside Rothenburg, is well worth the drive for a memorable meal or overnight stay.
Perched high on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside, Burg Colmberg has a first class farm-to-table restaurant, which serves venison and wild boar raised on their own property. As is the case almost everywhere in Germany, the staff members all speak English. You can even request an English menu and there’s also a kid’s menu. You can come for a full meal or for afternoon kaffe and kuchen (coffee and cake). They also offer an extensive menu of ice cream concoctions.
There’s a children’s playground a few feet from the tables, so you can watch your kids while you eat, too.
