At 65 AUD per night, this place is not bargain basement by Bali standards. Whilst In a good location near Uluwatu, the joint is in need of an update. The rooms are large, the bathrooms pretty awful. The pool is nice but has seen better days. We were advised by other guests to avoid the breakfast. There is better nearby. Come on guys. Up your game!

This was my first stay at Sandat Mas Cottages with my own family which consisted of my wife, 1 yo Daughter and Grandparents. We could not have been happier with the affordably priced rooms, food and overall the friendly hospitality from the staff.
At $55 per room / per night for my wife and daughter we were provided with warm showers, frosty air conditioning and a regular room clean each day. The overall space in the rooms was great with plenty of floor space for surfboards and baby beds. the pool opposite was in a desirable location that received cool breezes throughout the day which is muchly appreciated in the Balinese climate.
Each morning we had a breakfast available which was included with the stay. The options of eggs (scrambled, poached, fried or omelettes) omelettes being my favourite all came with toast. Cheese and tomato Jaffles where also a hit along with the Banana pancakes. There was also a fruit platter which was excellent for my daughter with a mix of freshly supplied fruits. The juice options where Orange, Watermelon, Papaya, Pineapple and Banana smoothies too, these where happily ordered daily. Extras where never a problem especially after i had an early morning surf and needed some extra fuel sometimes i could double up for a extra $2.
The food was very reasonably priced for all other meals at the hotel which was convenient for when we didnt feel like heading out or where too tired. They also brought food to your room which was excellent. There Indonesian dishes where all a hit, they also had some burgers and pastas which were good to mix it up.
The beer fridge was always stacked and available for purchase too at a competitive price.
Conveniently there was a convenience store / Fuel station a short walk up the road to stack up on water, ice creams, snacks and fuel for the scooter.
Being there with our daughter, safety was obviously an issue and it was in the back of my mind when trying out a new place to stay. They had security guards during the night on shift which was great and a permanent presence of staff throughout our stay. This made for a comfortable place to holiday.
The beach was a walk down the road to the cliff face, this was a very big necessity as I would be surfing at least once per day at Uluwatu (suluban). So being able to walk to the beach without needing transport was a must.
Transport was never a problem the Cottage had a driver we could use whenever we needed for those longer adventures. Reasonably priced and could book in advance being relaxed knowing you had a safe driver.
They had the availability to rent scooters which helped a lot because it could be all in your total bill, the price was as good as you could get anywhere and scooters with surfboard racks are available too.
Most of the people that stayed there when we got talking where people that had been returned guests. They appreciated the friendly staff, family atmosphere and value for money.
Id say the priority for me when booking was security, value for money and access to the beach. But what i didnt expect was to have such friendly staff that seriously made you think you where the only guests there. Always making themselves available when we had questions.
Ive stayed in Uluwatu several times before mostly at Blue Point, as the price there wasnt really reflecting the standard of accomodation over the last few years we have been looking for something else. Sandat Mas is owned and operated by a local family that live literally next door so to have that knowledge of being involved with helping the community is just a bonus to staying in such a great place.
For Surfers, Families and couples couldnt recommend it better!!
