Reasonable Hostel in good locstion

by Alison M

The hostel is just a few blocks from the plaza de armas. You can see it from the front door. Nice common areas, spacious private spaces. Absolutely NO hot water. It doesn’t go a degree above FREEZING making showering impossible. A little expensive.

Great Location but Could Probably Find Better for the Same Price

by Leah C

My stay here was pretty good overall. I was a little dismayed, however, upon first seeing my room, which was sort of a shack on the roof with a door and windows that seemed pretty easy to open (indeed, I locked myself out one evening and very easily got back in: nice for me but worrisome). I made the room my own, however, and was fairly comfortable, except for being a bit cold at night (the wind creeps through the many cracks and windows that won't quite close).

The staff were pretty nice... well, some of them. My third morning there, I sat writing postcards just before breakfast and watched as the guy working set up breakfast for every table but mine, even before other people appeared. Despite my smiles and glances, he completely ignored me, served everyone else, and went downstairs. I was a little embarrassed sitting there by myself without breakfast and went downstairs to ask. When I asked, he acted skeptical that I even had breakfast and checked the computer before begrudgingly serving me. It was awkward, and I was a little upset at the time (I had had some other negative experiences in town around the time). But this was my only bad experience with the hotel itself.

The hotel is quite near the Plaza de Armas, which is great. There is also big market just two blocks or so SE of the hotel. You can easily visit the Museum of Contemporary Art if you take a left out of the hotel and walk maybe 15 minutes straight down Alvarez Thomas (there's even a little veggie restaurant on the right not far for you other vegetarians).

Anyway, overall, the hotel's not too bad for the price, and the breakfast is pretty standard for Peru, but if you're a bit pickier, you could probably find something a bit better for the same price.
