Great hotel with great view

by pocla2019

Stayed here for two nights to see Puno. Hotel has good standard with a very nice and service minded staff. View is wonderful over Puno city. Rooms have balcony to the seaside and are spacious, maybe not luxurious but very comfortable. Standard dependancies are there, at least from our experience.
Location is a bit outside citycenter but we did not see that negatively. The view pays off.
We had some problems with our travelbookings and needed help. Since our spanish is less than poor we got help from Valenia who made all the necessary phonecalls and gave us excellent service. Muchos gratias!

Nice lake views but overall quite poor

The hotel is several miles outside Puno, which means it has great views of the lake and the city. It also means it is impossible to get anywhere without a taxi, as there are no shops or restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is huge and quite old-fashioned, and was mostly empty during our stay which made it feel a bit spooky. When we arrived, the staff offered to put our suitcase in the room while we check in - however, when we arrived, we found the suitcase left unattended in the corridor outside the room, rather than inside! Our room was spacious and had a nice Lakeview, but it was also freezing as the AC didn't seem to produce any warm air and there was no radiator. The bed was comfortable but the beddings looked a bit old and used, and the big wooly blanket we were given was really heavy. The bathroom was OK but the door only worked one way - could be closed and opened from the bathroom, but once we closed it from the room, it couldn't be opened again. We had to call reception to come and fix it, who seemed quite familiar with the problem. We could also hear the ringing of the lift signal in our room every time someone used the lift. The breakfast was good but the dining room was very cold and due to being mostly empty and staff being busy setting up tables for lunch, it didn't have a very welcoming atmosphere. Overall, this is not a hotel I would recommend, I don't think the remote location, the atmosphere and the cold and creaky room setup are worth the price, even considering the lake views.
