Not too small for two nights

by Bernadette P

I worried that the island would be too small for two days/nights but its hilly and offers such beautiful scenery that I happily repeated the same walks. And I rambled off trail, exploring the hills and beaches. I also enjoyed kayaking, playing pool and birdwatching. Forewarned by other reviewers about the cost of water I bought a 2 liter bottle of water with me. As to the food, it was variable in terms of value for money. One day When a big group was in I was able to have a three course lunch for $22. Another day, a small salad for $10 approached San Francisco prices. I assume the hotel has extra costs because the food has to come from Puno in the boat with the guests and when the lake is too rough the boat turns back and everyone and everything takes the three hour journey overland. That uses a lot of fuel and it’s not remotely eco but, then, flying to Peru isn’t eco either. I’m happy that we skipped Taquile in order to get to Suasi before the lake got too rough.

Great spot to explore at your own pace

Room and bed were great. The shower hot water was hit and miss, the temperature needs better regulation to guard against scolding. Which I mentioned to staff. Buffet lunches were served in the peaceful garden of the hotel over looking Lake Titicaca. Food was fabulous. Activities included coastal and island walking, canoeing, bird watching, tour of the private museum, taking in the views and peace. Great place to recharge.
