This is a basic hotel in the historic center of Quito. It is clean and comfortable, and the staff are helpful. Close to many museums and plazas, including the Plaza Grande. The top-floor restaurant has a beautiful view of Plaza Santo Domingo and the virgin of the panecillo. And, it was quiet. I did have a few minor quibbles. The hotel room was a bit chilly in the early evening (which was solved with a sweater), and the wifi was wobbly. But these are not important matters. I would happily return.

We stayed at Hotel Real Audiencia twice (both times in Room 302), and really enjoyed our stay. For our first stay, we arrived in Quito past midnight, so it was easily 2:00 am by the time we arrived at the hotel. I had previously informed the hotel of this very late arrival, and had a reservation that actually started the previous day. They had assured us that we would be able to check in without any problems.
When the taxi pulled up to the hotel, the front doors were locked. When we rang the doorbell, a young man showed up and let us in. He quickly checked us in and carried our suitcases up to our room. Note that this hotel does not have an elevator. Having said that, the stairs are very comfortable.

While it's not a luxury hotel, it has everything for comfort. Our room overlooked the street leading to Plaza Santo Domingo. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom has a very powerful high-pressure shower, which was really nice.
They offer great breakfast on the top floor. It's the hotel's restaurant that in the mornings serves breakfast. The restaurant offers a stunning view of Plaza Santo Domingo.
Hotel Real Audiencia has a very central location. it is within close proximity of all Colonial Quito sites. It also offers a great advantage in that given the fact that on weekends many of the streets of Colonial Quito get pedestrianized, you can still always get to the hotel with ease in a taxi if coming from others parts of town (or going to other parts of Quito, for that matter), asking the taxi drivers to bring you to Plaza Santo Domingo.
The reception area workers were consistently helpful. They always provided directions and guidance. They would even share how much taxi rides should cost to specific places. It's highly recommended that you negotiate the taxi fee in advance of commencing the ride.
We left for Banos for a few days, and Hotel Real Audiencia safely stored our suitcases. We got them back during our return stay. On the first day of us being at the hotel, one of the employees noticed that my Mother looked tired, and she offered us coca tea. It did perk us up.
We were happy about this choice of hotel, and are glad to recommend it to others.
