With its vibrant yellow and red colors, it is hard to miss the Colony Hotel, which has been operating here since 1926. Although the hotel is not on the water, its Colony Cabana Club is, and just two miles from the hotel by complimentary van. Membership to the club is permitted through being a guest of the hotel, and you can enjoy a heated saltwater pool, 250 feet of private beach with cabanas and umbrellas and Wi-Fi all included, and lunch available from noon to 2:30 p.m. The club and the hotel are both pet friendly, with pet blankets, water stations and dog walking areas available. All rooms have a king bed, so families will have to book a two-bedroom, which has a second bedroom with a queen bed. Complimentary breakfast is offered in the hotel lobby, and a number of restaurants are within walking distance on Atlantic Avenue.

We were looking for something close by but far away enough to consider it a vacation from home. Delray is about 2 hours away so it was perfect. We discovered this hotel in one of those historic hotel books and thought we give it a try. It was better than we expected! Rooms were nice and clean and modern. We had a corner room facing the road so it was a bit noisy. You could hear all of the traffic and construction but was quiet at night time. They have these clips on their pillows which made it odd to sleep with. It was like one of those anti theft devices you see on clothes in the stores. Do that many people steal the pillows there that they need this awful device on the pillows? We thought at first they forgot to get it off because maybe it was a brand new pillow. Nope, it's on every single one of them! Wasn't very comfortable!
The lobby area didn't have air-conditioning so that was a hot area also. The one huge surprise was that they have a private beach club! That was worth the price of everything. Chairs, umbrellas, restaurant, bathrooms, shower area and a large salt pool! It was wonderful and we were the only people there! It was the mini vacation we were looking for! I would recommend a stay at this hotel and definitely a visit to the beach club!

We had an enjoyable two night stay here. The hotel is on Atlantic Avenue, which has a plethora of restaurants, shops, and galleries, a happening place. The beach club and swimming pool are not at that location, but about a five-minute drive away. A shuttle is also available, running about four times per day. The beach club serves lunch but otherwise BYOB and your own snacks as well. The beach is private with complementary chairs and small cabanas. The hotel is historic, with rooms that are not large but are still comfortable. Bath has a shower/tub combo with dispensers for toiletries. Complementary WiFi and TV are up to date; furniture is antique, but bed is modern and comfortable with lots of different pillows. There is a window unit A/C which has a digital thermostat and worked well. In the closet we saw a space heater for cold weather. There are limited outlets for charging. Floors are numbered European style, with the lobby on ground level and rooms on floors one and two. Elevator must be operated by desk staff, so expect to do some stair climbing when you are not burdened with luggage. Included breakfast was satisfactory if not lavish and self-serve. Scrambled eggs, bacon or hash, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, and cereal. The fresh squeezed orange juice was the highlight. As noted by others, the lobby and breakfast area are not air conditioned which would likely be less than pleasant in the summer.
