There is nowhere else like The Point. All the accolades you've read are, if anything, understatements. It's beautiful, peaceful, intimate and elegant. While there are other lovely boutique properties that have much to offer, The Point's setting on Lake Saranac is matchless in its beauty and for the many lake activities available to guests (boating, swimming, fishing, ice skating). In addition, the quality of the food here exceeds that at any other resort we've visited: it's simply superb thanks to an exceptionally talented chef. We feel that these things, combined with the wonderful caring staff and high level of service, put The Point at the very top of the list of the finest small resorts in the U.S. -- it's certainly our new favorite.
All of the buildings on the property are fairly close to one another, and each of the 11 rooms has its own unique charm. Which room to choose is really a matter of personal taste. The four rooms in the Main Lodge are the coziest and most convenient to meals, as the dining room (the "Great Hall") is in the center of this building. The next closest building to the Main Lodge is Eagle's Nest, just across the driveway circle, containing three rooms (two with large second-floor decks) as well as The Pub on the ground floor, where an antique safe holds wooden Stave puzzles that guests can take to their rooms. A bit farther away and set slightly into the woods is The Guest House, also with three rooms. The largest and most private room on the property is The Boathouse, an enormous suite situated in the upper floor of the resort's actual boathouse. (To allow its occupants quiet mornings, none of the motorized boats can be taken out before 10 AM.) It's a somewhat steep uphill walk from The Boathouse to the Main Lodge, though one could surely request a ride from staff if the hike didn't appeal.
From our arrival to our departure, we were made to feel completely welcome and like valued guests. The staff greeted us with smiles and genuine warmth. We were given a tour of the property before being shown to our room, Lookout, then welcomed to a delicious lunch in the great hall. The communal dining here makes perfect sense given the small number of guests and was completely comfortable. One of the nicest things about the communal dinners is the rotation of staff members who act as hosts for the group. In case you have any doubt about whether to pack that tux, virtually all the men wore tuxes and the women dressed in floor- or cocktail-length formal dresses for the Saturday night black-tie dinner, yet it was relaxed and enjoyable. During our visit about half of the guests were first-timers like us, and the other half were returning after one or many prior stays; their ages ranged from early 30s to 70s-plus. About half of the guests were from the New York metro area, the rest from all over the country. Everyone we met was interesting, well-traveled and congenial.
In sum, The Point is a wonderful, unforgettable place to which we look forward to returning again very soon.

My husband and I visited The Point in August 2019.
The moment you drive through the gated entrance, you are struck by the beauty of the estate grounds and the outstanding views at this Saranac Lake setting.
This is an estate steeped in history. Being an original Rockefeller property, the owners have lovingly and meticulously retained the persona of rustic elegance.
This is THE place enjoy the lost (and sweet) art of just doing nothing.
Everything is in the detail here, from the hammock on the rocks jutting out over the lake, to the placement of the Adirondack chairs lakeside, to the glass of champagne offered before heading to dinner, to the basket of goodies for pets who may accompany their families, to the shiny and well-cared for boats that patrons can take out on the lake.
You feel very special at The Point.
The staff members here are not just friendly and attentive. Many other hotel properties have that. But here, they are warm. And the staff appeared to REALLY enjoy their work.
Dining at The Point was magic. The dinner service under Chef Loic and his brigade was among the best we’ve ever experienced. The table was beautifully set, and each course was delicious, imaginative, and beautifully plated.
We could not have asked for a more sophisticated and better dining experience. The energy in the kitchen was focused and professional.
Although this was a romantic getaway, I could also envision The Point as being an excellent site for executive strategic planning sessions, where you need to clear your head to plan for the future, or family get togethers where you could enjoy the peaceful location while packing your day with fun activities.
Thank you to the stellar staff members at The Point for a most memorable stay. Keep up the good work!
