When looking for a hotel I look for 3 main things. Are there bed bugs? I didn’t see any. Is it in a safe neighborhood? Definitely not the best part of town, but there is a Sheez and McDonald’s across the street. No boarded up buildings with spray paint and graffiti and bars on the windows and the property is taken care of. And is there good service/clean rooms? Yes, I have no complaints. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. Clearly they are understaffed and it’s apparent in small ways. But it’s an Econo lodge, there’s limited expectation.
The one main complaint I have is that the management is not keeping up with the place. The AC was not working in the first room we ended up in. The 3rd floor is a smoking floor. If you are sensitive to smoke, this place is not for you. You can smell the smoke ALL the way down to the first floor and all the way up on the elevator.

I wish I could give this place a better review, but honesty compels me to give you fair warning. First ... the good: the reception staff was excellent - they were polite friendly and very helpful. The room, although very small, was clean. Everything worked including the TV, the A/C, the hot water, etc. The mattress was comfortable. No microwave in room.The breakfast was okay, but limited. Second ... the bad: the motel itself is on the sketchy edge of downtown just yards away from a concrete expressway overpass. There's a Sheetz gas station/market and a McDonalds right across the street but behind the McDonald is a really sinister bar and liquor store with unsavory characters loitering around. This is not a good neighborhood. Parking is limited and the spaces are tight. In my case - I stayed a few nights - housekeeping never cleaned my room or made my bed or provided fresh towels on the second night! The front desk man apologized but said housekeeping had gone for the day. He did give give me some fresh towels. I think that is inexcusable especially since I was a guest staying for a few days. As someone else noted - the TV cable choices were limited. The carpeting in the hallways were stained and in dire need of a shampoo. Overall the motel was furnished in a very cheap fashion and let it be known this is certainly a cheap "budget" motel. Don't expect anything nice or close to luxury. Third ... "The Ugly" - no one ever mentions this aspect of a motel but I will - the building itself was UGLY. A plain three story rectangular box painted tan and terra cotta, with unsightly rust stains streaked down the exterior walls from the A/C units. When some Johnstown friends asked where I was staying and I told them they looked down and frowned. This place is not a good choice for staying downtown. On top of that the room rates were not that cheap, I managed a 30% discounted rate but it was still no bargain. If you need to stay one night it will do ... it is not awful. It's no bargain either. Spend an extra $10 or $20 a night and stay at one of the nice chain hotels in the middle of the downtown area nearer to the Central Park.
