Overview
by Lissa Poirot
The Hayes Mansion was built in the 1800s by Mary Hayes Chynoweth, a prominent force of a woman who became known as the Matriarch of Edenvale. The home was originally a Victorian mansion featuring a main mansion and two identical, connecting mansions to house the sons, Everis and Jay, who were also renowned in the community as lawyers, businessmen and politicians in San Jose. When fire ravished the home, it was rebuilt in a similar style in 1904, and is the main building of the current Dolce Hotels’ property.
The City of San Jose bought the Hayes Mansion in the 1970s and turned the historic building into a conference center. Adding a second building with 127 guestrooms and then an additional 82 guestrooms in a third building, the hotel offers 214 room types, with five suites located in the original mansion. Today, the property is mainly one that attracts conference and wedding goers, but its facilities also make it one families turn to for hosting large family events and reunions. However, small families passing through San Jose will find its amenities and suites comfortable for weekend getaways and local staycations.

Nice size rooms, but portable A/C used for our room. Good amenities, but needs some improvements done. We felt safe and plenty of parking. No fee for parking. Stayed two nights without any issues. Food was good in Lounge, but didn’t stick to hours posted.
