Traveling to a foreign country as a person with a disability often means compromising on accessibility, not so here! My universal room was not just easy for me to navigate, but was also newly renovated and beautifully appointed with classy design touches that blended accessibility features into the overall look and feel of the room. Finding a roll-in-shower in Japan is like finding a unicorn, but my room had not only a spacious step-free shower but also one that came with an overhead rain shower! While there was no built-in bench, I found the wooden seat provided to be adequate and quite stable.
All public spaces were accessible too, except for the pool, which is up a few steps. The shuttle bus that goes to Shinjuku station has a ramp, which all drivers know how to operate, and I was overjoyed at actually being able to access it (a rarity in the states, even though it is required by law).
The concierge desk was extremely helpful in arranging a motorized wheelchair rental, and was even proactive about changing the delivery appointment when I extended my stay.
I only ate at one hotel restaurant, Kakou, and had an amazing dinner there. The others looked good as well.
The location was terrific as, in addition to the 5 minute hotel shuttle to Shinjuku station, there was an elevator to the Tochomae subway station directly across the street from the hotel. Though the hotel is well connected to transit, it is in a quiet area next to Shinjuku Central Park. This is nice to come home too, though I do wish there were more cafes and independent restaurants to stumble upon around the hotel.
Overall, as a Category 3, this is one of the best values in the Hyatt system.
