Overview

Families looking to add a little luxury to their Springfield getaway should book a stay at the University Plaza Hotel. The elegant rooms and suites accommodate a family of four (plus cribs or pack-n-plays, which the hotel can provide on request). Visit the Terrace Grille for chef-crafted breakfasts (buffet or a la carte), lunches, and dinners: eat there or order to-go.

Kids love the fact that the hotel has both an indoor and outdoor pool, so they can swim no matter the season. Parents, relax in the adults-only hot tub and watch them play. Then, if you can, indulge in some time to yourself at the Grove Spa for a massage and pampering. It may not be a five-star hotel, but you’ll find the University Plaza offers just what you need for an enjoyable and relaxing trip.

Attending an annual Benefit Dinner -

by Mike D

We have been attending an annual Benefit Dinner for the last 7 years. Always held at the University Plaza and we book 1-2 nights at the hotel. As we are familiar with the hotel, we always request the top floor with a particular view. This year was pretty typical. They pay no attention to guest requests. We were assigned a room on the 4th floor with the worst possible view avialable. They were able to switch the room to the 9th floor .. with the same awful view overlooking the kitchen ventilation fans. We usually prefer the Executive 2 room suites, booking 3 months out, it wasn't avaiable. The guest room was ok, they aren't anything spectacular. We realized at 11:30pm they hadn't provided any coffee cups for the coffee maker in the room. Calling the front desk we were advised we would have to come get them ourselves as no one was available to bring them to us. The main purpose for my review was the actual Benefit Dinner. Our expectations are never high for a banquet dinner. We aren't expecting gourmet. We are there to support the benefit. In past years, the dinner has been passable. This year, however, was so bad you couldn't even eat it. The entree is supposed to be a chicken and beef combination. The chicken was tasteless and rubbery. The 2 very small pieces of beef with some red orange gelatinous substance was disgusting. I've seen higher quality stew meat. There was a mound of potato. It's was beyond description and then some hard undercooked green beans. Our starter was a green salad that had been preset on the table for such a long time that it was warm and wilty looking. The dessert was edible, but it seems, it had been donated by an outside source. The quality of meal since our first event to last Saturday's has hit rock bottom.

Quiet, but not so clean

The room layout was OK, although the bathroom is dated and the pipe in the shower sing. The really bad part was that there were someone's toenail clippings by the window, and I didn't notice until morning. I would have rejected this hotel had I noticed earlier. Clearly, the rooms are not well cleaned between guests.
