Anchoring downtown and connected to Rice Park, this grand hotel has been a landmark for more than 100 years. It’s the kind of old-school place that has four-poster beds in some of its 254 guestrooms, offers lavish brunches in the ballroom for Easter and Mother’s Day, and hosts a traditional two-hour afternoon tea on select dates throughout the year.
It’s especially enchanting during the holidays and Winter Carnival when Rice Park is lit with white lights in the trees, a skating rink is open nearby and ice sculptors are at work. The hotel’s St. Paul Grill consistently earns solid reviews for dining.

My husband and I stayed at the Saint Paul Hotel and had a lovely stay. I would stay here again for sure.
So why the four stars instead of 5? The first room they gave me, which is the one I paid for in advance, a King Deluxe, was dark, small, and kind of smelled old. I am not normally the type of person who changes rooms, but I literally walked out of that room and right back downstairs. They said they could give me a nicer room, if I paid a $49 upcharge each night. We agreed, and I will say it was the best decision. The room was huge, albeit a little dated and a little too ornate for my tastes, but it felt much nicer and definitely more luxurious.
Folks at the valet/doorman were always friendly. The area itself is very safe, and walkable to a lot of things, including the Xcel Energy Center, and a new found amazing restaurant, Cossetta Alimentari.
The hotel vibe feels old New York, which I appreciate. And my guess is this is the best hotel in the area. It’s a good hotel to stay at, just make sure you pick the better room.

Beautiful boutique style hotel in the heart of downtown. Friendly staff make you feel welcome from the moment you enter the front door. The rooms are well appointed, clean and comfortable. The fitness center is well equipped, but a little crowded. The restaurants are fantastic. This hotel was convenient for all my meetings in the downtown area.
