Mammoth Lakes might not be right next door to Yosemite, but it still makes a great home base for families exploring the park and surrounding areas. The Mammoth Mountain Inn primarily operates as a ski lodge, but is open in the summer months as well–it’s just usually a little quieter (which is definitely a pro for most travelers!). Book a simple two-queen room, or a full condo for a true home away from home (kids will love staying in one of the condos with a loft, and you’ll love all the extra space).
There’s plenty to do at the property all year round, whether it’s taking a dip in the pool, soaking in the hot tub, or having friendly competitions in the game room. When you get hungry, head to either The Yodler, a fun Bavarian restaurant, or the Mountainside Bar & Grill, which features family-friendly American fare; both have kids’ menus and a lot of variety.

Jim Blasey is the man! My fiancé and I drove up at 4 am to start our vacation in mammoth lakes only to check in to the most disgusting airbnb, with an Airbnb host that ghosted us and left us high and dry. We scrambled all night long to find a hotel in Mammoth and ended up here! After sharing our horrible experience Jim, he took it into his own hands to put a smile back on our face and made our entire night! His hospitality and customer service was so impeccable we will be back here every time we visit! Seeing someone go above to save our Mammoth experience meant the world to us. I have never, out of all my hotel visits experienced someone as thoughtful as Jim! He really took care of us and was exactly what we needed! I’m so grateful for him. Mammoth is lucky to have him! Very professional and High quality service with welcoming arms!

I stayed here with my dog for one night after visiting Yosemite. I was exhausted and hungry, and asked if they could move me to the first floor in the main building, and they did with no problem. The staff in the bar and grill upstairs are super nice, and my cheeseburger was awesome. Rooms are really cool because I had a sliding glass door that led to a huge yard with a wonderful view of the mountains. Be sure to clean your car of food and drink as they have mischievous bears in the area. Lastly, Ryan, who helped me with my bags and was wonderful, gave me great travel tips so I could see the oldest trees in the country, called Big Pines, on my way to Las Vegas!
