This U.S. Airline Is Shrinking Its Carry-On Bag Allowance

Alaska Airlines is the latest U.S. airline to change its baggage policy.

The U.S. carrier will shrink the size of permitted carry-on bags, effective June 4, 2018.

Current measurements for permitted bags are 24 x 17 x 10 inches; as of June 4, they will be 22 x 14 x 9 inches — this includes handles and wheels.

Alaska Airlines explained the choice by stating that its current size allotment is “larger than most other international and domestic airlines allow.” The new sizes will ensure carry-on bags pass regulations on all flights during trips — not just Alaska Airlines flights.
