The Family Travel Forum released its 10th annual FTF Student Travel Trends Report, showing teen travel is on the rise in the U.S.

The report, released this month, showed the number of teens traveling within the U.S. rose 4 percent in 2016, with 53 percent of teens traveling. Seventy percent of teens travel with their parents, as opposed to school groups or with friends, and heritage trips where teens explore their roots jumped to 13 percent in 2016.

Thirty-five percent of teens rejected the label of “vacation,” instead referring to travel as “cultural exploration” (41 percent).

The Family Travel Forum’s annual report coincides with its 10th annual FTF Teen Travel Writing Scholarship, with nearly 2,000 teens participating.
