Skyscrapers serving as attractions are nothing new. Consider the Empire State Building or the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), where visitors could reach the top for 360-degree views of New York and Chicago, respectively. But more and more skyscrapers have been adding thrilling attractions to the buildings, such as Las Vegas’ Stratosphere Hotel adding a scream-inducing ride 1,148 feet above the Las Vegas Strip or the Tilt Window experience at Chicago’s John Hancock Building. Soon Los Angeles will join the fray.
Los Angeles’ U.S. Bank Tower will added a fully enclosed glass slide to the outside of it its 72-story-tall skyscraper — the tallest on the West Coast. Visitors will descend inside the slide with nothing but glass separating them from the streets of L.A., 1,000 feet below.
The new slide will be a part of the a new rooftop complex that also provides 360-degree views of Los Angeles. OUE Skyspace L.A. will be found on the 69th and 70th floors of the U.S. Bank Tower, featuring an interactive video exhibit about the history of Los Angeles, a bar, and the new slide. The entire project is set to be completed by June 25, 2016, as part of a $50-million renovation of the building. A new restaurant will also be added to the building’s 71st floor.
Entrance to IUE Skyspace will be $25, with rides on the slide $8 each.
