Disney Parks and Resorts will open a new Disney theme park this year: Shanghai Disney Resort.
Shanghai Disney is scheduled to open June 16, 2016, and will be the largest Disney theme park following Disney World in Orlando. Shanghai Disney’s Cinderella’s Castle will be the tallest in any Disney Park. It will also feature the first new themed “lands” in a Disney park when it opens Treasure Cove, a Pirated of the Caribbean-themed area of the park, and Gardens of Imagination, which will house the park’s rides for the youngest visitors. Three additional lands will include the current favorites of Fantasyland, Adventure Isle (similar to Adventureland), and Tomorrowland.
New rides at the park include rides themed around Disney movies like TRON and Alice in Wonderland. The new theme park will also feature an open recreational space for guests to enjoy called Wishing Star Park, and a neighboring shopping and dining area called Disneytown (similar to Downtown Disney).
Guests will have two Disney hotel options in which to choose to stay, including a new Toy Story-themed hotel and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel. The two hotels will provide a total of 1,220 rooms, character dining, transportation to the theme park and Disney merchandise.
