Joining discount, “no frills” airlines such as Frontier, Spirit and Southwest airlines, American Airlines announced it will introduce “no frills” fares beginning in 2016.
Targeting travelers who rarely fly and who seek the lowest airfares without additional benefits, American will follow Delta in creating a new fare category for passengers. Although American has yet to release the details of its new fare category, it is expected to be along the same lines as Delta’s “Basic Economy” fares. Passengers booking these non-refundable fares pay additional for baggage and do not get to select seats assignments until check-in.
