JetBlue Begins Charging for Checked Bags

JetBlue has joined the numerous airlines who have made changes in fees for checked luggage. The discount airline has announced a new fee structure for baggage and fares, leaving Southwest Airlines as the only airline remaining that does not charge for checking luggage.

The new Blue fare options include Blue, Blue Plus or Blue Flex. Blue will offer the cheapest flights but to check a bag using Blue, it will now cost passengers $20. (The fee increases to $25 if the decision to check a bag is made at the airport.) Passengers selecting Blue Plus fares will pay roughly $15 more for a fare than Blue, but receive one checked bag. Passengers selecting a Blue Flex fare will pay roughly $85 more for the flight, but receive two checked bags. (We feel the best deal is Blue Plus, as its the lowest additional cost with a bag overall.)

Blue Flex fares also are allowed same-day changes with no fees, free cancelations and expedited security lines.

Carryon bags are still free on JetBlue.
