A new survey released by Skift, a leader in travel industry information and marketing, found 62 percent of those surveyed are not planning on taking a summer vacation in 2015. The survey follows a recent U.S. Travel Association study that found 429 million vacation days go unused annually in the United States.
The reasons for not traveling? Respondents cannot afford to travel (31.3 percent) or are too busy (30.2 percent). Of the 38 percent who will travel this summer, 22.8 percent said their travel will be short, weekend trips, while only 15.8 percent planned to take one long trip over the summer.
A second survey conducted by Skift asked the similar question of how many vacation days would respondents be taking this year. More than 45 percent said none and 15 percent said less than a week. Of those traveling, 24.6 percent said they would take one to two weeks, and 15.2 percent said they would take more than two weeks.
Of those who will travel, families will take more summer vacations than non-families.
