Beginning June 30, PEOPLExpress discount airline will begin offering seven flights from its hub in Williamsburg, Va. The airline, formerly operating in the 1980s until it was acquired by Continental (now United), is relaunching with daily roundtrip flights from Virginia to Pittsburgh, Boston and Newark, N.J.
Flights to West Palm Beach, Fla., will launch in July and Atlanta, New Orleans and St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Fla., in August.
Introductory fares will begin as low as $76 one-way. However, like discount carriers Frontier and Southwest, PEOPLExpress will charge additional fees for add-ons, including $25 for carryon bags, $20 for the first checked bag, $15 for advanced seat assignments, and $25 for exit row seating, among others.
The airline, which will initially operate as Vision Airlines, dab PEOPLExpress until the FAA provides official approval, plans to add 24 destinations within the next five years. It also plans to add hubs in Pittsburgh, New Orleans, San Antonio, Texas, and Atlantic City, N.J.
The airline begins taking reservations for flights today.
