Since the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the Atlanta Braves have called Turner Field home (taking over the stadium in 1997). The stadium, located on the south side of the city and inside the perimeter, has been a favorite of fans, proud to walk beneath the Olympic rings when nearing the park. But fans will soon be cheering on the Braves from a new stadium, and a new location when the team moves to its new mixed-used stadium for the 2017 season.
Located outside the perimeter near the junction of I-75 and I-285, the new stadium will be the home of the Braves, as well as a 365-day destination with dining and shopping in the mixed-used facility. The space will include a boutique hotel, office space and nearly 500 residences, also with a Main Street of restaurants and shops, with roads closed on game days to make the area pedestrian friendly. An outdoor plaza will provide green space with outdoor festivals and concerts expected.
The new stadium, parking and infrastructure is expected to cost nearly $700 million. Construction begins on the stadium this summer, which will be completed by Opening Day 2017.
