As the first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings approaches, a new memorial exhibit has opened at the Boston Public Library in Boston.
“Dear Boston: Messages from the Marathon Memorial” opened this week at the library, which is located at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The exhibit is a collection of letters, running shoes, stuffed animals, signed posters and other items that poured into the city from around the world by people who wanted to share their sympathies and condolences. More than 1,800 pieces of mail were sent to then-Mayor Tom Menino’s office, which was stored and preserved.
Visitors can place their own notes on a special tree.
The “Dear Boston” exhibit will remain on display at the library through May 11, 2014.
