Forget traditional Easter Egg hunts, scouring lawns and bushes for colorful treats. In this technology-advanced world, New York City is offering a hunt using smartphones.
The new Faberge Big Egg Hunt, which will take place April 1 through 17, will require seekers to download a special app to help find more than 200 eggs hidden around New York. These “eggtraordinary” eggs are not just your plastic variety. Instead, the 2-foot tall eggs were designed and decorated by famous artists and designers, including Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren.
Egg hunters do not get to keep the eggs, but will be eligible to receive prizes. Once 10 people have found the egg and checked it in on the app, it will appear on the app’s map for others to locate and visit. After the hunt, the eggs will be exhibited at Rockefeller Center, April 18 to 26, before being auctioned off to benefit conservation group, Elephant Family, and artist program, Studio in School. Replicas of the eggs will be sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and online, with profits also benefitting the aforementioned organizations.
