The 4-star, luxury George Hotel is a destination hotel with outstanding views of Edinburgh. The 249-room hotel offers standard rooms through suites, the smallest of which are small doubles or twins. Families will not be able to share a room together here; instead, they will have to book double and twin rooms to accommodate more than two people, making the George Hotel a property best-suited for families with teens who can sleep unsupervised. Rooms are equipped with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen televisions. Onsite dining is available in the hotel’s Printing Press Bar & Kitchen, which serves traditional Scottish dishes and a Continental breakfast daily from 7 to 10:30 a.m. The restaurant provides a children’s menu.

The hotel is well situated to central Edinburgh and downhill from The Royal Mile. Our room was newly renovated and quite comfortable. While we were there, additional floors were under renovation and the route to our room was blocked and we were redirected to upper floors to change elevators to go down a floor. We were on an inner courtyard and it was quite noisy, so fresh air was not an option. The concierges were superb. The lobby is rather small and quite busy. Though we gave it a second try, their bar, The Printing Press, was a huge disappointment. Poorly staffed and lacking in such difficult orders as a Ruby Port, a well known Scotch!

Wonderful old hotel with lots of character. It is close to restaurants and shopping, with only a short walk to the Old Town and the Castle. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming and helpful, especially the concierge Peter who greeted us when we arrived and then provided excellent recommendations and was always there to provide a friendly greeting and make us feel welcome in the hotel.
