I'll start with what I liked about Hotel Ranga: potential for seeing northern lights (we didn't in our 3-day stay because of cloud cover); ease of booking and embarking on outdoor adventures; fantastic breakfast; friendly, helpful staff; quiet public areas in which to read or surf the internet. Also, it was very quiet at night, and the beds/linens were quite comfortable.

Unfortunately, there were a few things I didn't like: we had a "suite", which is really just a larger room -- I don't know if it's typical for all their suites, but I didn't like that the bed was on a raised platform which could pose a safety hazard for those with less-than-ideal balance (as well as our tub/shower in the "Japan" room, since it was a step up of about a meter to get into the shower on a slightly unstable wood block); our room had a very stuffy smell all the time, and I don't know if it was just ours or if all the rooms did (the public areas did not); I peered into the doorway of one of the regular rooms and thought it looked more comfortable than ours (at least they had a comfortable chair to sit in, which ours did not have).

In the end, I wished we had booked a "regular" room (the ones that face the river are worth any upgraded cost) and also researched typical cloud cover for the time we were there.

This is a nice hotel in the South part of Iceland that looks like a cabin.
The owner is extremely friendly that come to greet you on the dinner table .
Very cozy rooms and cozy lounge areas.
