This is the second time my family has stayed here when visiting the Badlands National Park. It’s a great location for visiting the National Park and Wall, SD. We prefer it to area hotels as our family of 4 likes staying in a roomier cabin vs hotel room, and the price is about the same, typically. We’ve always stayed in a kitchenette cabin so we can do a bit of cooking and preparing picnic lunch for a day-trip in the Park.
Amenities:
Continental breakfast is included, and while it offers the usual hotel fare (bagels, bread, cereal, danishes), the presentation is pretty poor. Dirty dishes were left in the sink, cream cheese was in the original foil wrapper with toast crumbs left from previous guests. I’m not expecting a quaint B & B spread, but some simple (and hygienic) touches would go a long way to making a better impression.
The hot tub was out of order during our October stay but it’s right in the middle of the road between cabins (and with a general BBQ gathering area).
They also have a huge gift shop and reasonable kids playground.
Room recommendations:
I wouldn’t pay the $10/night upcharge for the “meadow view” for the kitchenette. Those units do look out over a large field (but no view of the Badlands) but also a row of residential houses and the highway. (The cheaper kitchenette units have an equally fine view). It might, however, be worth the upcharge for their other cabins as they otherwise look at the road.
We haven’t stayed in the teepees but their location isn’t appealingly. They are situated along the road between cabins and are very close to each other, leaving virtually no privacy.
Staff:
We only interacted with a staff member at reception, who was helpful but not particularly interested in our business. She was in her slippers every time we saw her.
Overall it’s a pleasant place to stay for exploring the area. A little more attention to detail with friendly service would push it up to a 5-star rating.
