Overview
by Lissa Poirot
A destination resort, the luxurious Hyatt Regency Indian Wells in Greater Palm Springs is the type of resort families dream about when planning a vacation. When families arrive at the resort flaked by towering palm trees, they discover the expansive 45-acre grounds with swimming pools, golf greens, tennis courts, a kids’ club and more. Rooms and villas are large and provide fantastic views of the property.
Formerly the home of the Indian Wells Masters (now the BNP Paribas Open), the stadium that once welcomed the likes of Andre Agassi, John McEnroe and Roger Federer, is still used for practice for players participating in the March tournament. Athletes often stay on the property to enjoy the two-bedroom villas with private patios and butler service, both of which are available for all guests. Rooms may be at a premium when Federer is in town, but your family can enjoy better rates year-round for a quiet, relaxing holiday.

Find the Best Price for Your Stay
Following an expansion and renovation in the 2000's, the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells offers guests a selection of 530 hotel rooms and suites, as well as 43 one- and two-bedroom villas. All accommodations offer complimentary Wi-Fi access. Cribs and rollaway beds are available upon request as well. Accessible rooms are available with wider doors, grab bars, raised toilet seats and other features for families.
Standard and View Rooms
Hotel rooms are considered standard if they do not offer special views or face those that do. The rooms provide either one king bed with a sofa bed in a sunken living area, or two queen beds (one in a sunken area). Bathrooms feature separate tubs and showers. Rooms provide 37-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, mini-fridges, coffeemakers and bathrobes. The resort is shaped like a U, so guests can have either mountain and golf views, or face the swimming pools. Each room features a balcony or patio.
Suites
The resort has 26 Penthouse or nine Premium Suites that are between 875 and 1,100 square feet in size and provide a separate living area with a sofa bed and wet bar, dining area for four, and separate bedroom. A half bath is located in the entrance leading to the living room, which has a 47-inch flat-screen TV. Bedrooms are outfitted with king beds, although two of the suites provide two double beds if you need extra space. Suites also have larger balconies than traditional rooms. Premium Suites also come with a pantry that offers guests a mini-fridge.
Villas
Forty-three villas are located opposite the pool area with one- and two-bedroom options ranging from 1,350 to 1,900 square feet in size. The villas feature a large living space with a sofa bed, 42-inch flat-screen TV and gas fireplace, a dining room for four, a kitchenette with a mini-fridge and essentials and a private patio with a hot tub. One-bedroom villas feature king beds, while two-bedroom options provide a king and two double beds to accommodate up to eight people. Each bedroom also features a flat-screen TV. The private patios have their own grills, and guests of the villas are provided with butler service during their stay.
Regency Club Rooms
Guests can book Hyatt Regency Club rooms, which offer king or queen beds, as well as all of the standard amenities. Additionally, guests of Regency Club rooms receive access to the Regency Lounge, with complimentary breakfast, snacks and refreshments available daily.

Exceptional overall experience. All staff in all departments were very friendly, courteous and accommodating. Grounds were impeccable I would highly recommend to family, friends and coworkers. I hope to visit again with family.

The view from my 4th floor room was breath taking. The room was clean and amazing as was the bathroom. The fitness area and spa were small but well equipped and up to date. The only downside was the room service food.
Family Activities
Camp Hyatt
The resort's supervised kids' program, found at Hyatt Hotels across the nation, is available for potty-trained children ages 3 to 12. Kids will come to know the resident pet lizard, Spike, and enjoy scavenger hunts and interactive activities. The program is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and available for half or full days, which can include lunch. Special activities are available on weekend nights from 6 to 10 p.m. Advance reservations are required.
Teens
The only complaint to be found at the property is the game room. While the activities and programs offered to the kids are great, the resort converts its grand ballroom into a space for the bigger kids during peak season, making it seem like teens are an afterthought. The game room offers Wii, shuffleboard, corn hole and seasonal activities for all ages, such as making gingerbread houses around the holidays, New Year's Eve parties and glow parties.
Swimming Pools
The resort has seven different swimming pools for guests to enjoy, although one is available only to adults, who may want to take advantage of the quiet environment and cabana service while the kids are at Camp Hyatt. The main pool area is massive in size and features a wading pool for little ones, waterslides, splash areas and hot tubs, and smaller pools scattered around it. The pools are heated in the winter and chilled in the summer. During peak seasons, the resort offers dive-in movies. Pool hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Waterslide hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Outdoor Game Area
Families can enjoy basketball, Foosball, croquet, bocce ball and Frisbee at the resort's outdoor game courts and lawn. Families can also enjoy free bicycle rentals, available at the Pool Hut on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tennis
As the resort was the home of the world's sixth largest men and women's tennis tournament, it should come as no surprise that the tennis facilities at the resort are some of the best guests will encounter. Three hard courts are available, with equipment rentals and tennis instruction for all ages. Courts are available at no cost to guests (except rentals), and they are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Family Dining
Lantana
Take in the views of the mountains and golf course at the open-air restaurant, Lantana. The contemporary restaurant offers selections of chicken, beef, fish and pasta, along with wood-fired pizzas. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Roadrunner Café
Named for the desert bird found in the area, this café emulates its name with quick-service meals like sandwiches and salads. The café is located near the resort's largest pool. The café offers service from 11 a.m. to dusk, seasonally.
Agave Sunset
For light bites and cocktails in the afternoon or evening, the lobby bar, Agave Sunset, is a perfect place to come together after a day enjoying the resort. Cocktails and Southwestern bar fare are served Monday through Thursday, from 2 p.m. to midnight, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to midnight.
Citrus Marketplace and Café
Grab-and-go coffee, pastries and boxed lunches are available at the Citrus Marketplace and Cafe, located in the hotel's lobby.
Oasis Pool Bar
Open daily at 10 a.m., the Oasis Pool Bar serves cocktails, smoothies, milkshakes and food for families enjoying the pool area.
Vue Grille & Bar
Although not associated with the hotel, the hotel is located on two championship golf courses. The Vue Grille and Bar is the clubhouse and restaurant connected to the courses. Guests of the resort are welcome to enjoy Sunday brunch, lunch and dinner at Vue. The restaurant is open for brunch on Sundays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; daily lunch, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and daily dinner, 5 to 9 p.m. Light bites are available 3 to 7 p.m. daily, and a café provides early morning service from 6 a.m. through 3 p.m.
Nobu
Perhaps Japan's most famous chef, Nobu Matsuhisa sets up a pop-up version of his popular worldwide restaurants during the Indian Wells tennis tournament. Renowned for its sushi, the pop-up restaurant is booked solid, so if you're planning to visit in March, be sure to book reservations well in advance.
Regency Club
For an additional $75 per night, guests can choose to join the Regency Club, which offers a lounge on the fifth floor serving continental breakfast, snacks and appetizers. The fee is for a family of four; if you are traveling with a larger family, you will have to pay extra fees. The lounge is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and has a private outdoor patio. The club is not open to children under 16 after 5 p.m.

Getting Around

For Mom and Dad
Golf is king in Palm Springs and the Hyatt Regency rests against two 18-hole championship courses with the neighboring Renaissance Indian Wells. The Indian Wells Golf Club is a 36-hole public golf club, consistently ranking as one of the best in California. The Clive Clark's Celebrity Course and the John Fought's Players Course both opened in the 2000's.
If golf is not your thing, don't miss the resort's spa, Agua Serena. The spa is housed in a separate building and is available to locals and guests from other properties, with the fitness center connected to the spa offered at no charge to resort guests, and available 24 hours a day. The spa is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering full spa services such as massages, facials, body wraps and more. The spa's salon provides hair, makeup and nail services. Guests of the spa can have healthy meals delivered to enjoy while relaxing in the indoor or outdoor lounges. A steam room, sauna and hot tub are also available. Guests of the spa must be at least 16 years old.
