Mmmoth's Best View, and at Human Scale and Warmth

by Jaisal9

I returned to the Mammoth Creek Inn after several years and found it as wonderful as before. It faces open land and the mountains, which provide striking companionship all day -- and then, on a clear night, once can see the stars.
It is big enough to have a spa, a warm living room (with fire), and more. The breakfast is excellent. Try the combination of oatmeal with cinnamon and lots of raisins.
But is is small and intimate as well. The staff are not bored bureaucrats following a formula complete with uniformed smiles. They have diverse personalities. They are real. And they are warm and helpful. Kate Jones, while helping me with a computer challenge, discovered that we have a shared interest in Brazil.
There is construction next door; but, except for somehow creating parking problems, it had almost not impact on my visit. This is a great place.

Nice Location

Went up to the Mammoth area for a few days to go fishing and sightseeing, deciding to stay at the Mammoth Creek Inn. Older property feels like it was built in the '70s and renovated in the near past. Good rate for the area, but you do get stuck with the $20+ per day "resort fee." Would not call the place a resort, spa, or any other adjective indicative of something more than an average motel. Staff was friendly enough.

Good central location and within walking distance to Mammoth Creek, restaurants, stores, etc. However, the property was not well maintained. The smoke detector was missing on the room, a fact that I mentioned to the desk clerk who wrote down the safety issue, but it was not replaced in the time we were there. The rest of the room was OK, but there was no attention to maintenance detail. Also, the housekeeper should not leave the first floor windows wide open after cleaning when the room is occupied, as this could be a security issue when items are left in the room. Since this in an older structure, ask for a second floor room or deal with the herd of elephants above you.

The continental breakfast is average (cereal, bread, packaged pastries, etc.) and essentially served in the basement. The flooring in the breakfast room is old, dirty carpet that badly needs replacement. A new building is being constructed next door, so the parking lot is shared with contractors.
